My Qualifications

I understand that you are contacting a stranger via the Internet for something you probably thought you would never have to do. There is a lot of junk on the Internet these days, so my intention here is just to give some background to show you that I am a real person with a real service (yes, I get that question frequently!). Also, although this isn't a full resume, I hope it gives you some confidence that I have the skills needed to format and/or edit for you.

Education

  • BA The College of NJ 2003, Double Major Psychology and Sociology, Honors Program Graduate, Magna Cum Laude, Sole TCNJ Phi Kappa Phi Nominee, Psych & Sociology Honors Societies, Fred & May Rummel Winner and Bonner Scholar, Blaustien Scholar, NJ Merit Scholar, among others.
  • MSW, 2005, Concentration Administration, Publicy, and Planning for Children and Families. 3.95 GPA on 4.0 scale.
  • In both undergraduate and graduate school, always carried full-time course load or more, while volunteering and working two jobs, holding active leadership and membership positions on campus, maintaining stellar grades, and usually tutoring in some capacity as well.
  • Originally began to edit scholarly documents as a master's student, beating out Ph.D. candidates for the job. Since then, academic editing and formatting have become my trades.

Experience

  • 9 years formatting hundreds dissertations and theses for students at countless schools. 2008 to Present
  • Contracted by American University to design dissertation and thesis formatting templates in Word 2003, 2007, and 2010; to provide formatting trainings to staff and graduate students; to provide feedback on their university formatting guidelines, and to create formatting web tutorials for students. 2010-2011
  • 4 years Adjunct Professor of Business/Professional Writing and Communication, as well as Writing Consultant, for PhD, Master's, and undergraduate students at Temple Unviversity's Fox School of Business
  • 10+ years editing scholarly journal articles, books, grant proposals, and professional correspondence for nationally and internationally respected professors and also for graduate students. 2005-Present
  • 4 years part-time teaching and tutoring English as a foreign language, often times to high-level corporate executives, in 6 countires in Latin America. 2005-2009
  • 2 years as an Employment Specialist for a nonprofit in Philadelphia with a demanding work model. Performed job development, training, screening, job readiness, interview preparation, etc., with rigorous weekly and monthly performance goals. Clients' survival literally depended on my ability to deliver challenging goals on time-sensitive deadlines. 2009-2011
  • 15 years of solid references about my work ethic and personal character.

Skills

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and some other programs relevant to editing and formatting. Able to work with PDFs, images, and other supplemental appendix materials.
  • Strong research skills. There is almost always a good solution, we just have to find it.
  • Ability to meet demanding goals under pressure.
  • Typing 90+ WPM at 99% accuracy in English. 70 WPM with 99% accuracy on Spanish-formatted keyboard.

  • Honesty. I will not sell you something that you do not need.
  • Dedication. I will work with you to the end of your dissertation process!
  • Avid learner. Always interested and willing to learn something new, such has how to design this web page, or becoming fluent in Spanish as an adult learner with no prior knowledge.
  • Desire to excel at any task. (It's a disease, but one that serves editors and formatters well!)
  • Attention to detail and commitment to make everything right. (Also a disease.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to diffuse difficult situations.
